find probability

Today we shall discuss about probability. The study of probability helps us to  understand what are the chances of something which is going to happen or take place. This chance of occurrence is termed as an "Event" in Math. It is important that to try and figure out or identify all the different outcomes. For example rolling of a dice what are the possibilities of you landing on the number five. For a better understanding here is an example for a probability problem :

1. A die is thrown once. Find
(i) P (an ace)
(ii) P (an even number)
(iii) P ( a number < 3),
 (iv) P (a number > 4)
 (v) P (a number < 7)
  (vi) P (a number > 8). [Hint. (1) In a die, ace means the number' 1\
  (v) All the outcomes are favorable to the event 'a number <7\ .'. Reqd. probability =1.
(vi) None of the outcomes is favorable to the event 'a number >8'. .'. Reqd. probability = 0. It is an impossible  event.]
